The 2010 Vancouver Olympics are starting in 2 days!!! I haven’t attended anything related to the Olympics. The only thing I’ve done was ride the Olympic line – there’s my share of Olympic spirit lols.
I’m not volunteering nor working for Vanoc. Haha yes, yes, I’m so sad. I have no Olympic or Canadian spirit whatsoever.
I’ve took some pictures at the (crappy) Olympic countdown clock too. I don’t mean to say it’s crappy. But it really isn’t very impressive.
…
Anyways, I’ve visited Trinity Street this past Christmas holidays. The lights were awesome! I just wanted to share photos of some of the best lights on the street.

nee pooky, we haven’t done much blogging since we started back in the summer D=
What memories are you reminiscing as the year ends?
- anyone believes in the end of the world or like a spiritual awakening?
Movies movies and movies !!!
Music wise, haven’t touched.. listening to my favorite todays singers re take on past old famous legends to name a few, Khalil Fong (HK).. of course MJ stuff… young Nikki Yanofsky (Montreal)… many versions of ‘Lullaby of Birdland‘ ‘have you ever heard’ the magic of Nikki’s version? yes ‘we’re in love.”
and of course Korea dominating ever so more …
Perhaspe most of the time a modern twists rekindals old memories and flares the song to todays society… but classics will of course remain classics of time…
.
.
Food wise, all the restaurants we got to try, different foods from sea to sea, cultural to fusion twists (ahh whats with this reaccuring theme of new and old, but then again maybe nothing is ‘new’).. Bugs, hairs, mold are the thing of the past now, I wonder whats in store next year…
Oh and must to be remembered in fall, thanks a lot, drinking shot(s) for the first time in my life and throwing up afterwards (awsome.. and no it wasn’t psychological, i saw it only as nasty tasting water!! didn’t expect it to happen !!! i swaer!! ) D=
.
.
.
A suddenly guilt passes over as I realize how the pile of to be reminisced about posts are to posted, the stack of restaurants to be blogged about.. the daily life lazying around doing nothing as you think of how you suddenly in a blink of an eye lepth through time…
.
.
.
What isn’t made to happen overnight.. Reasolutions?
to another lazy year… cheers !!
lalala, hahaha maybe i’ll finish this in the new year…..

Sushi Okawa Japanese Restaurant
5657 Snell Avenue
San Jose, CA, United States
(408) 972-5978
http://www.sushiokawa.com/

Take a look at their menu, it’s full of pictures.

The owner Sam was a funny man. He wasn’t a Japanese guy, but he does make good sushi and very inventive kinds of rolls. They look good and they taste good too.

I really like their soy sauce/wasabi/ginger dish.

California roll with salmon sashimi on top.

This one had fried tuna on top.

This should be the dragon roll.

This is the spider roll that I love! =]

Salmon patty on top.

Caterpillar roll.

This volcano roll was SOOO good. The baked chopped scallops were so yummy. And there was actually fire in the middle too. It’s quite a cool looking dish.

Pizza Antica
334 Santana Row
#1065, San Jose, CA, USA
(408) 557-8373
Pizza Antica had pretty awesome pizza. They pizzas are oven cooked and have a very thin and crispy pizza shell. Their toppings and selection are also pretty good as well.

They have a neat looking oven. As you can see, the fire is raging away in there. Apparently we aren’t allowed to take photos. We got in trouble for taking photos and was asked to stop. But in the end we still managed to sneak photos of the pizza when it was served.

I believe this was the mushroom and meat pizza. It comes in an oval shape and they cut it into 6 pieces. The way they serve it is also quite interesting. They have a wooden tray and they put it on a metal stand. And if you can see in the photo, they the plates underneath it. This is a cool idea, as it does save a lot of space.

This was our other pizza. I think there was tomato, artichoke, and ham. I liked both of them a lot. Uncle Brian took us here just because they are famous for the crust. Stinky’s aunt had mentioned to us before we went to eat here that the pizzas are very, very expensive. But I think the price is fair. I guess the reason why she says it’s expensive is because she usually buys pizza from Costco, the Kirkland extra large pizzas.

By-Th’ Bucket Bar and Grill
4565 Stevens Creek Blvd, Santa Clara, CA, United States
(408) 248-6244
On another day, we went to By-Th’ Bucket Bar and Grill. Stinky and her two little cousins ordered from the kid’s menu. The kid’s menu had prices that were considerably better when compared to their portions.

The store offers this kind of bread for a starter, the free of charge type. And I just loved the softness of the bread along with the dill spread. Stinky’s aunt was brave enough to demand for a second batch after all of us ate our piece. We were already stuffed with bread before we got our actual meals!

So Stinky orders a ham and pineapple pizza. Nothing special there. But obviously there is limited toppings as seen in the photo. The flavour of it is also quite typical. I don’t taste the specialty in their pizzas.

Julianne got the meat pizza from the kid’s menu. This one basically has pepperoni and beef. The pizza itself is quite small, considering it’s kid’s size. But there really isn’t enough toppings to satisfy me.

Olivia got a burger from the kid’s menu. It’s pretty plain as you can see. There is no sauce or lettuce, just a meat patty with some bacon, and some fries on the side.

As old as I look, I didn’t want to order anything from kid’s menu. I think I look way too old for that anyway. But as broke as I was, I settled for a clam chowder. Their chowder wasn’t exactly really tasty either. In other words, I have tasted better clam chowder before.

This was kind of funny. I don’t even know what this was called. I think it’s some kind of fried chicken strips. From my memory, I just remember it was super salty and didn’t fit my taste buds at all.

Stinky’s aunt ordered garlic bread. I didn’t get to try this. But it looks okay – super garlic looking. But I do like garlic. Maybe I did end up trying this dish, but memory fails.
Not too elaborate about anything today. I’m super tired, though I’ve done nothing except eat for the whole day HAHA.

ABC Seafood Restaurant
782 Barber Ln
Milpitas, CA 95035-7919, United States
(408) 435-8888
More about California. Once I’m done my California restaurants, I will continue on with more from Vancouver. This is ABC Seafood Restaurant in Milpitas. Me and Stinky went there with Stinky’s “big” aunt. The dim sum there is actually pretty good, consider that Soi Yi said there aren’t much good dim sum restaurants around there.

I liked how the 腸粉 (rice noodle) has the vegetable beside it. The skin was nice and thin as well and they did have a lot of filling in between. If I remember correctly, this should have been the 叉燒腸 (BBQ pork rice noodle wrap).

This dim sum I found quite interesting. This is the 北京片皮鴨 (Peking sliced duck). Traditionally I believe they use kind of like a flour skin wrap, almost like those tortilla wraps, instead of bread. Here they used bread instead. Basically what’s included is the skin of the duck and the fat of the duck, and maybe a bit of meat if lucky enough to find some. They give you raw green onion and 海鮮醬 (hoisin sauce) as a side to complement this dish.

For three people, we did order A LOT of food. We are totally pigs. But we didn’t finish everything though. On the top we have 皮蛋瘦肉粥 (fermented duck egg and lean shredded pork congee). They didn’t have very fresh fermented duck egg in there, like the black kind, and the eggs themselves tasted quite nasty. But the congee was okay.

I really liked the 芋角 (fried taro with pork) here. They have pork that was quite lean inside and they also had a shrimp too. Most restaurants cheap out on the shrimp and just put lots of fatty pork and a puddle of constarchy-sauce in there. This place made it quite well.

For dessert we ordered a 雷沙湯圓 (Chinese mochi/gluten with filling). Oh I just love runny black sesame filling. And they had peanuts on the outside too, so yummy.

Last but not least, we did make a trip to the lavatory as well. I loved the sign on the door. It’s so cute!!! And so traditional!!! I don’t have a photo of the interior, but man was it nice. They have really awesome sink panel thingy. It was dark black, and reflected a purply/green pearly colour.
Overall, I liked this place. This place offers better dim sum than a lot of the places here in Vancouver and Richmond, even though supposedly we have more Asian restaurants here.
Anywho, my arms feels kind of funny now, as I just got my H1N1 and regular influenza shot. Until next time.

We also went to have Japanese food at Great Mall. We went with Olivia, Julianne, “Ah Go”, and Uncle Brian. I don’t have authentic Japanese food, neither did it taste too great. The food there wasn’t worth the price either. Me and Stinky had to pay for this expensive meal too. Ouch to my wallet.

This is what the inside looks like. They had the revolving boats. This photo was obviously taken from a completely wrong angle with the sneeze guard completely reflecting the light.

I must clarify that I did not take any of these photos, but don’t worry I didn’t steal them either. The point being – I would never take crappy photos like such that are out of focus. At least you can still see the shape of it to some extent.

Focus on the table. Everyone, let’s look what the table looks like! At least you get the idea of what the California Roll and the salmon sushi looks like. The sashimi they have is definitely not of good quality. It didn’t taste or look fresh either.

We ordered a unagi rice bowl, I think it was $9 or $10 USD too! It was really not worth it, considering it looked practically homemade and low of quality given its price. Let’s pay attention to the bowl in the upper right, since it’s the clearest thing in the picture.
Uncle Brian ordered an eggplant dish. It was so funny because Olivia and Julianne freaked out when they saw that the dried bonito flakes were “moving”. They claimed it was still alive and refused to have it near by. HAHAHA It was just so funny. And I like those bonito flakes too! Muaha, I got to eat them all. But still, the overall of this restaurant is not good. I’ve had way better sushi. And as in a previous post, Sono Sushi was way better than this.
